Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Just found out today that the Trickster anthology finally got picked up by a publisher! (You can see a preview of the submission I illustrated here.) It will be released next fall.

WOO HOO! I can’t wait to get my copies. :D

New Sketchbook

Monday, November 24th, 2008

No one carries the sketch book I like best anymore. (Running Rhino Sketch Journal.) Pff! So I picked up a Moleskin which is an acceptable alternative. Anyway, I drew some stuff:

Hodei in a cave. That’s body paint, not tattoos.

Nahia. I don’t know what’s up with her outfit. I’m still working that out. (Boob alert.)

Nahia dancing? in her crazy outfit that I will not be drawing again. I like her expression, though.

Over Haul

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

I’m getting Fried Wontons ready for a long needed face lift! It’s not very pretty at the moment, but it’s getting closer to how I want it to work structurally. The front page will display my Blog posts only and you have to go into Comics to see the most recent updates. I didn’t like having my comic updates on the main page because I’m not running a web comic and I don’t want people to think that’s what Fried Wontons is. I still have some code tweaking to do, but for the most part everything works! Yay! Once everything is running smoothly, I’ll work on updating the layout. (Which is really ugly at the moment. Sorry!)

Anyway, getting to this point took far too long and I really need to go to work now!

P.S. The site is starting to get a little less ugly! I actually have some graphics up for the first time since I started using WordPress/ComicPress! Yay!

It’s Ready!

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

I was going to wait to work on my website, but I couldn’t leave it alone! Everything is pretty much the way I want it now. There’s a little more color coding I need to work on and I want to reformat the Comics page a little, but I’ll save that for another day.

I hope you like the new layout! I’m aware of the white border that shows up on some monitors. There’s not much I can do about it! I hope it doesn’t annoy you too much. :-)

The Perfectionist

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I can’t leave things alone if they’re not perfect. I think I may have fixed the resolution problem with the background image so there won’t be any white borders on wide screen monitors anymore. (You’ll have to tell me! I checked it on my Mom’s computer, but I won’t be satisfied until I hear from a few more people.) I also made the image a little smaller so it’s not taking up so much space at the top. There’s still a few things I want to do with this image, but I want to make sure it’s working properly before going crazy with the little details.

I’m working out my updating schedule for 2009. I’ll be making an announcement about it in the coming weeks. It’s about time I use this website to its full potential!

2009

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

I finished up the 2008 art gallery with some sketches that were floating around. Check them out!!

2008 was a difficult year for me. A lot of things changed, a lot of things didn’t. I think it’s more the things that didn’t change that made this year so hard for me. All in all, if I focus on all of my achievements, no matter how small, I can leave 2008 behind with no regrets and gear up for 2009 with enthusiasm. I have a lot of things planned for Fried Wontons and for my business, Nonesuch Garden. This will be the year I really use the internet to my advantage. It’s the FUTURE! I have no more excuses.

As far as resolutions go, I have all the typical ones in mind. Make more art, lose weight, save money, all that good stuff. In all honesty, I didn’t do so well with my resolutions for 2008. A lot of things spiraled out of control and I lost sight of my goals. But 2009 is the year for CHANGE. Our first African American President who will be sworn into office in 19 days is proof of this. Things will change for the better in 2009. I can make it happen.

Work Doodles

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Things are starting to calm down at my new job. I’ve finished my training and I’m heading into my regular schedule. Hopefully good time management skills will follow! (For those that don’t know, I landed a new job at the Latchis Hotel. It’s pretty great! There’s a lot of history behind the building and it’s owned by the Brattleboro Arts Initiative. I’m very grateful and proud to be a part of the Latchis Project.) Anyhoo, it’s been pretty quiet at the hotel so I’ve had time to draw and sew. Here are some pen doodles from today that I glued into my sketchbook.

I still have a tendency to draw HUGE EYES. I’m working on this!

I’ll be posting more art soon! I have a tentative plan to start updating Fried Wontons every Friday starting in February.

GASP!

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

What’s this? An art post two days in a row? What is the world coming to? Granted, they’re just more ball point pen work doodles, but art none the less.

I redrew Hodei because I didn’t like how big his eyes were in yesterday’s doodle.

A sphinx!

And a couple quick sketches of Hodei.
